When you buy industrial steel pallets or stillages (as they are also known), you expect them to last. An Essex manufacturer of purpose-made high performance doors and door sets, bought 18 such stillages from us 15 years ago. I guess even they were surprised that after all the work they have been put through, they are still very much the backbone in helping the business store the materials on site to help them produce the commercial, residential, healthcare, education and hotel buildings doors at the factory.

So when the order book took a rather nice jump in sales this May, the factory manager called us to help him handle the knock-on effect for the factory. Increased production means the workforce are working flat out to keep up with demand but with demand comes the need to source and store more materials to get the job done. As with all businesses, space is always very much at a premium, so trying to see the wood for the trees (pardon the pun), is often difficult but having someone from outside to look at the problem with fresh eyes, can be a tremendous help, especially when they have vast experience of handling and storage issues.

Our sales manager Jonathan Ball visited the site to discuss the needs and measured out the available floor space, to enable the best solution to ensure that the factory maximised the area to its full potential. He spoke with the customer to get a total picture of what the production flow was and assess expected volume of product coming in and leaving, along with expected time to turn the orders around, so we had a full and comprehensive understanding of the customers’ needs and expectations. By taking this worry away from the customer, it allowed them to concentrate on their business and make sure that they were in a position to take on the extra work, with reassurances from Action Handling that they could produce more stillages within the tight timeframe.
