Materials Handling Equipment Training Courses

We have a highly competent Team of instructors who are expert in providing Novice and Refresher courses at your premises to train your staff. The courses include both the theory and practical elements that will ensure that your staff will be fully able to safely and efficiently use your new or existing material handling equipment. Competency training by our trainers will comply with the recommendations of the AITT Instructor Manual and be specific for the type of equipment that you are using in addition to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) approved code of practice L117 and we are ISO 9001 certified.

Here follows a list of Material Handling Training Courses that
we can offer including all the basic operating skills required:

Manual Pallet Trucks
Semi-Electric Pallet Trucks
Electric Pallet Trucks
High Lifters/Scissor Lift Tables
Manual Stackers
Semi-Electric Pallet Stackers
Fully Electric Stackers
Stair Climbers

Why should your staff be trained with a Action Handling Equipment
Materials Handling Training Course?

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER or PUWER regulations) place duties on people and companies who own, operate or have control over work equipment. PUWER also places responsibilities on businesses and organisations whose employees use work equipment, whether owned by them or not.

The training aims to keep the user and others in the surrounding area safe during the operation of the equipment.

The correct and proper use of the equipment will help to ensure that damage to the equipment is kept to a minimum, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced production downtime.

Materials Handling Equipment Training Courses

Our Material Handling Training Courses are compiled in such a way that they teach the operator:

• To carry out start & finish checks
• To ensure that the machine controls are in perfect working order and
not damaged in any way
• To carry out operator safety and observation checks
• Ensure the batteries are fully charged, maintained and free from corrosion.
• How to steer and operate the controls
• How to manoeuvre and transport goods
• The mechanism of lifting and lowering
• How to stack and de-stack at various heights where applicable
• How to safely park the equipment

How many delegates can be on each course?

Our courses can have a minimum of 1 delegate per course and for example we can train up to 8 people per day, split into two half day sessions for any type of pallet truck.

Prices are relative to delegate numbers with larger numbers being more economical than say just 1 delegate. The maximum number of 4 people per session will guarantee that all delegates receive the necessary attention from our instructors during the course.

What is the length of the course?

Always allow one full working day per course.

What facilities are required on site for the training?

Please arrange that a supply of stackable loads (your normal palletised goods) and some empty pallets are provided in a practical training area of your premises (minimum 12m x 6m) set apart from your work or production areas and preferably set under cover.

A bigger training area for larger equipment like fully electric stackers will be required.

Pallet racking must be accessible for training on all stackers.

A room or quiet area must be available to carry out the ‘classroom-based` part of the course.

All the delegates must have uninterrupted attendance for the duration of the whole course.

Any electric equipment to be trained on, must be fully charged prior to the course starting.

Is there a pass/fail mark on the courses?

On all the equipment (excluding stair climbers), we have pass/fail marks based on the pre-use checks and all the practical use of the equipment. This is to ensure all operators are to a standard where they can use the equipment in a safe, responsible, and efficient manner.

Certification:

If your delegates pass the course, they will automatically receive a certificate that states that they have passed the basic operating skills test as defined in the health and safety executives approved code of practice L117.

The certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of the course.

If 3 years elapse without the delegate taking a refresher course, then a novice course would be required to bring the operator back up to the appropriate safety working standards.

Refresher Courses:

We recommend that 3 yearly refresher courses are taken by delegates to ensure that they maintain proper and safe use of the equipment.

When a refresher course is completed, certificates are issued providing the necessary pass marks are achieved.

Record Keeping:

We will keep records of all training that is carried out, including pass/fail results, and certificates of candidates are archived in case these are misplaced or need to be referred to later.
