Transportation of delicate, fragile goods is a key issue faced by many UK businesses. One of the most common materials associated with accidents or injuries at work is glass. These two facts combined make the glass industry a minefield when complying with health and safety regulations.
When a leading UK glass manufacturer sought to improve the safety of their workforce, they contacted Action Handling to discuss onsite improvements. One of the core issues identified by our consultants was that the customer would use standard trolleys for transporting glass sheets across site. As per our recommendation, a trial period with a standard ‘A’ frame truck proved to be far more effective, safe and secure when moving materials.
Following the test period, a bespoke model was designed and manufactured. As the glass manufacturer produces outsized amounts of glass and terrain onsite making it difficult for standard wheels/castors to operate, the bespoke model was tailor-made to fit exact specifications from the customer, which included a much higher weight and size capacity than the standard model as well as heavy duty specialised wheeling for ease-of-use.
A bulk order was then placed for a large quantity of bespoke ‘A’ frame trucks and these are now used constantly for all transportation requirements.
Standard model features:
- Suitable to transport glass, window and doors and all manner of sheet materials.
- 300mm wide base boards both sides.
- Four strong timber resting battens both sides.
- Strong anchor points for fastening straps.
- Capacity 600Kg.
- 200mm dia fixed and swivel castors with rubber tyred steel centre wheels.
- Other sizes and capacities can be made to order.
