When a global electronic and industrial component giant needed a quality sack truck, Action Handling was ready to heed the call! Our site contact requested that we call in to observe the operation in full flow and make a recommendation accordingly. The requirement was for a large quantity of sack trucks which were robust, built to last and designed to handle euro boxes into their main distribution centre.
The client needed our expert advice to help solve on-going issues with efficiency. They had already been in contact with other suppliers of hand trucks and sack trucks (some of which even supplied working samples), but they were becoming ever more frustrated by the process as there always seemed to be issues ‘not quite right’ with each truck.
Firstly, the wheeling. Some sack trucks on-site had pneumatic tyred wheels (air filled) which were fine for a few days until the wheel started to go down! On other trucks, the foot iron projection plate was too short or had raised front edge that would catch the boxes on loading. The one thing they all had in common was the back of the truck, which was either angled or had a curved back which meant the boxes slipped causing potential finger trapping. Or when a load was delivered, the boxes would tip forward again creating a health and safety risk for the management team on-site.
Furthermore, the sample sack trucks had a large space in-between the handles which meant small parcels would slip through the sack truck.
Action Handling’s team was on-site within two days of the initial enquiry. Our Sales Manager, Jon Ball, analysed the whole distribution process and measured the storage boxes, euro boxes and parcels being transported from the distribution centre. We took diligent notes of the customer’s needs, compiled them and submitted to our production department who in turn designed a bespoke, robust sack truck.
The customer approved a working sample we had produced and a total order for 42 tailor-made sack trucks was received. Delivery was completed within 2 weeks with all 42 sack trucks now on-site making the order picking process a much safer environment!
