charity bin

Early in 2013, a globally renowned aid and development charity were looking to update the facilities of all fashion outlets across the UK. It was at this point that they contacted Action Handling to provide some bespoke equipment.

During a conversation with their head of procurement, our customer outlined that they required a new donation bin. This donation bin would be used behind the counter of the fashion store, so that patrons could come in and donate their clothing directly into the container. The donation bin would need to be large enough to cope with a day's worth of items received, on wheels (therefore easy to move) and with the charity’s own special branding.

Luke Phillips of Action Handling and the chief buyer of the charity spent a great deal of time together, deciding which of our products would be best suited to their requirement. Based on its size and durability, the PT03 distribution trolley was agreed as the item of choice. The standard PT03 has external dimensions of 610 x 460 x 800mm and a capacity of 100 litres – more than capable for everyday usage in the charity shops across the UK.

Next came the special branding which the customer requested to be applied to each of the bins. As the PT03 Trolley tapers from top to bottom, it made it very tricky to find a clear printed label that would fit to the surface without sacrificing aesthetic quality of the end product. After a number of alterations, the customer’s marketing department submitted their two final designs (one for the front and back and one for the narrower sides).

Action Handling’s production team suggested a clear self-adhesive vinyl which would be made totally bespoke to this artwork at 600 x 400mm (front/back) and 600 x 250mm (narrow sides). The PT03 bins were then moulded and prepped for application of the artwork. Luke Phillips then personally applied each piece of self-adhesive vinyl, by hand, to the donation bins, ensuring every single one was up to Action Handling’s quality standards.

A total order of 20 bins, complete with clear adhesive vinyl signage were supplied and delivered within 2 working weeks of the initial order. Reviews from the stores who have already received their new donation bins have been excellent and we are now on standby to supply the remainder of the UK stores.
