No manufacturing or service industry can be efficient without a sound production line. When one of the largest global construction machinery manufacturers engaged Action Handling to remedy an issue in their factory, we were excited to gather more details and discuss the solution.

It was noted that the replenishment of small parts to the assembly area was greatly affecting efficiency on the warehouse floor. Engineers on the production line had to manually retrieve specific parts to restock as required. There was no equipment in use that would make this task any more efficient.

Having gathered information from the client (quantity/size/frequency of stock items being transported), Action Handling’s design team were able to propose a recommendation specific to their exact requirements. The bespoke shelf tow truckpallet would serve as the ideal solution with two main uses:

  1. Store multiple car parts on individual shelves when not in use.
  2. Transport the parts across the factory, being towed in train by powered tow tugs.

Full working drawings were submitted to our client, along with a working prototype.

An order for 14 units was confirmed with a view to a further 26 units being supplied if deemed suitable.  The first units were fabricated and delivered within 3 working weeks. The customer finds these trailers so effective that there are now a total of 50 units on site being used on a daily basis.
