Whilst farmers are well adept at growing, picking, processing and packing their fruit and vegetables ready for delivery, when it comes to making a work site safe, they need assistance. Action Handling have lots of experience with this industry and we were glad to be able to help a Kent based grower.
We visited the site in spring, ahead of the planned distribution of strawberries to supermarkets across the UK. Having worked with many large fruit growers doesn't make us experts in the fresh food industry but we do know our onions when it comes to site safety!
Safety in the workplace is paramount to all companies and employees. Injuries and accidents can always be prevented if you use the right equipment and take measures to ensure where pedestrians and forklifts work side by side by fitting the right safety barriers in the appropriate area. Our sales manager visited the site to analyse where the goods would arrive and be processed and then dispatched to shops or other regional distribution centres.
The safety barrier we had in mind is designed to prevent passage into a dangerous area and is ideal to be used where pedestrians and forklifts work together in the same workplace. It physically separates staff from the work area in which the forklifts pass. The barriers come in many shapes and forms and are designed to work around columns, walkways, machinery and access points.
We supplied the customer with a quote which was accepted and work began to install the new safety barriers. It's a good feeling knowing that our safety barriers will help to keep everyone safe on site during such a hectic work period.
To avoid accidents at work, ask us about site visits, where we can offer advice and help you to create a safe working environment and avoid unnecessary disasters.
