When the Government announced the easing of lockdown restrictions in December, Action Handling were already busily working behind the scenes with a major UK parcel distributor. Our task was to supply acrylic barrier screens to ensure their office staff could return to work safely and in full accordance with all guidelines. The 8mm thick screens are quick and simple to fit and also very effective in preventing the spread of Covid-19. They feature curved edges which makes them easy to clean and are supplied with high quality brackets enabling them to be securely fastened to a tabletop or counter. In total, 192 screens were delivered to 15 separate locations at the end of November, which provided our client with the time required to install them before welcoming their staff back to work.
Plastic shielding at the checkout
With Covid-19 still a real threat and evidence suggesting that it’s spread mainly through droplets in the air from sneezes and coughs. Placing shields at check-outs is now common practise amongst retailers and helps safeguard both employees and members of the public, safe from infection. Many transparent counter screens are designed with a cut-out at the base so retailers can pass goods through and most incorporate a slot that allows costumers to access card payment machines while still providing an all important physical barrier.
Telescopic conveyors can be supplied in lengths that can extend from 4 - 20 metres and are usually made in either 400, 600 or 900mm widths. This application demanded heavy duty steel rollers 50mm in diameter, rated for 100kg capacity per metre length. An open length with 4 sliding tiers of 16m was supplied and this meant that when fully retracted the conveyor closed to only 5.2m long. The tracks were designed so that they could be fully adjusted in height to suit the rise and fall of the trailer bed and with no loading bay on site this allowed for goods to flow from inside the building into the full length of the shipping containers. The tiers neatly slide one on top of another from the retracted to the extended length and the whole unit is mounted on heavy duty polyurethane braked swivel castors to ensure that the product is easily moved around from various positions.
Types of plastic protective screens
A wide and diverse range of screens are available to suit differing locations and situations. Both perspex and acrylic are used in manufacture and there’s usually a style or design to suit the majority of applications. Most types can be installed very quickly without the need for tools which helps make them more cost effective. Where space is limited and a free-standing floor or counter design wouldn’t be convenient or practical, then hanging plastic and film sheet screens may provide a solution without compromising protection.
We’re happy to say that we continue to supply companies with the necessary screens and products to keep everyone as safe as possible. The expected delivery time on protection screens is between 4-7 working days!
