Abellio Bus are part of the Abellio Group who run bus services across London on behalf of Transport for London. Recent developments have seen the introduction of their new electric bus fleet with the Caetano e.City Gold Bus operating on certain routes.

The company recognised that they needed some steel shelving to store replacement components for their maintenance teams who work at various depots around South London. Their engineers need easy access to replacement batteries for the electric buses along with general replacement parts for the essential maintenance and repair of those buses as and when required.

A site visit and in-depth discussions with the management team progressed to a point where plans were drawn up to suit the individual needs of the maintenance teams, but it soon became apparent that an increased level of security needed to be employed to protect against the loss of potentially expensive parts and components.

Security mesh to cover all four sides and the top of the shelving became part of the supply brief along with the addition of hinged doors that the customer could apply padlocks to via a hasp and staple fitting. This would mean that the shelving could then safely hold the stored goods and could also be easily accessed when required.

We were able to supply our standard heavy duty Longspan shelving which was adapted by adding the mesh panels and doors to complete the installation. The shelving was 2500mm high x 2000mm wide and 600mm deep, with each bay having 3 levels of chipboard shelves. The bays were fitted with 50 x 70mm light grey mesh to the top, rear and sides with each bay being fitted with two hinged doors 2500mm high x 1000mm wide.

Our project team oversaw the undertaking from the original site survey, to drawing up the plans, through to the completed installation on site, where it was signed off by the customer as being fit for purpose.

We felt a great sense of achievement having been able to provide the best cost solution to a safe and secure method of storage!
