The Disney Magic cruise ship has been anchored in the UK since May 2020 because of the Covid 19 pandemic. It is the first vessel of a fleet of four, operated by Disney Cruise Line. It boasts 11 public decks, 875 state rooms which accommodate 2700 passengers and a crew of around 950. It is painted in Mickey Mouse colours: black, red and white with yellow lifeboats. In true classic Disney style, the ship’s horn plays an excerpt from When You Wish upon a Star. The owners had confirmed that the ship will be used for UK only sailings during the 2021 summer period. This meant that the boatyard needed to ready her, for her voyage from Liverpool. First things first - the Super Series Aerial Work Platforms used for maintenance height access throughout the ship, needed an up-to-date service - that’s where we came in!
These aerial work platforms are an industry favourite due to their ease of use, convenience and flexibility. Their lightweight manoeuvrability and durable design make them a versatile option for maintenance applications. It only takes one person minutes to get them ready to use for working at height. All model types can be used in most accessible areas, even without an onsite power source. Being lighter, they work well on floor surfaces susceptible to damage: hospitals, schools, gyms and cruise ships of course! They fit neatly into vans for easy transport to any type of worksite. The four stabilisers amplify stability whilst working at height.
The three lifters we examined, serviced and passed for use on the ship were: AWP 30S, AWP 25S and IWP 25S. It was a great site to see when the Disney Magic headed off from Liverpool on her first passenger cruise of 2021.
