One of our regular customers recently conducted a survey poll of their own staff and found out that their workforce reported a difficulty in contacting the company’s supervisors throughout their national depots. It was felt that supervisors were not visible enough and often seemed to have no designated point of contact.
An effective workforce needs a quick and easy ability to liaise with supervisors as and when issues or problems crop up. Supervisors are often the first port of call to deal with situations that arise around working practises, production bottle necks and generally negating issues that can stop or slow the smooth operation of the business.
We were pleased to be invited to look at a solution to help the situation and it was quickly felt that the supervisors needed a visible desk point. The 'blue coat' supervisors would then be easily visible so that all staff members could approach the desk with their various queries. A great range of standard desks and benches are already available, but it was felt that a more bespoke style of desk was required that could also facilitate the use of a laptop which needed to have a security cable fitted that would prevent removal of that equipment, if the supervisor was required to leave his desk post at any point during the shift.
26 supervisor desks with a lockable single drawer were eventually supplied to 26 different sites throughout the UK. Each was fitted with a flat worktop and measured 1060mm high x 1000mm wide x 460mm deep. A cut-out hole on the top surface allowed the security cable lock to pass through the desk for semi-permanent attachment. The units have an epoxy powder coated finish in the company’s corporate colours. These could have also been supplied in a wide range of other colours if required for inter departmental reference.
