It is always gratifying to hear that some of your products are being used at very important places around the country. The HM Passport Office Headquarters is at 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF, but has seven other regional offices and over 50 other interview offices dotted around the UK. They are the sole issuer of UK passports and responsible for civil registration services through the General Register Office.

The HM Passport Office was established in 2006 and provides accurate and secure records of all key events and the trusted passport operations. Their role is to issue passports to British citizens of the United Kingdom, home and abroad on behalf of the Crown. Prior to 2013, HM Passport Office was known as the Identity and Passport Service. More than 5 million passports are issued every year and the service employs more than 3000 staff.

A type of book trolley was required to move stacks of passports around offices and our sales team were contacted to advise on a simple design to meet the requirements of this prestigious customer.

The passports are bundled into stacks that were securely kept in lockable plastic containers. These containers were then in turn stacked onto the book trolley for movement between departments.

A few sample trolleys were initially produced for evaluation and after some minor tweaks and adjustments a quantity of trolleys were supplied to different destinations around the country.

The trolleys are produced with a tubular and angel iron steel frame, that houses 6 formed sheet steel shelves (3 per side) out of 2mm thick mild steel. Four swivel castors are fitted to the base with grey non floor marking rubber tyres of which two have footbrakes that can immobilise the trolley when needed. An attractive epoxy powder coated blue paint finish was applied and any sharp points are removed with the rolled front edges of the shelves providing an 'easy on the fingertips' feature.

In all the process from first contact through to the supply of the finished quantity only took 5 weeks and demonstrates that bespoke made products are a speciality for our company when supplying industry both here and abroad.
