When setting up your business, it’s important to take the time to ensure you have the most effective fit out for your industry. Interiors that are designed to flow, the work process mapped out from start to finish. Offices layouts need to be created, décor selected, furniture, equipment and shelving purchased and delivered before being set up on site. Getting your interior flow right is key to effective delivery of services.

But what about your exterior space? Fit out for most premises will likely require the installation of signage for your business, as well as any external requirements such as window grilles or bird scarers. However, if your external  premises include car parks and loading bays, keeping these areas clearly defined and organised not only addresses potential health and safety issues, but also gives visitors a good first impression. Line markings, separate footpaths and bollards can all be used to keep pedestrians separate from vehicles, while clearly marked parking areas mean there’s no confusion as to where to park. Loading bay areas are particularly vulnerable to risk, so making sure these areas are clearly marked and kept separate from other external activity is extremely important.

From a security point of view, adding in boom gates, dock lighting, anti ram raid posts and dummy cameras can all act as deterrents to wrongdoers. Additionally, they reinforce the first impression of an organised and capable business, operating in a professional manner. Secure bicycle storage areas provide peace of mind for staff as well as creating a dedicated space for bikes to be kept, keeping them out of harm’s way. It may even encourage more employees to ridwork, something that will be beneficial to their health and productivity in the long run.

Temporary obstructions, areas under construction and obstacles should also be clearly marked. Signage, safety cones and barriers can all be used to do so, and are easily stored for future use.

Action Handling can help you to manage your outside space with a variety of temporary and permanent solutions to traffic management, pedestrian safety and warning signs. After all, you never get a second chance to make a first impression!
