We recently had the opportunity to carry out essential safety inspections for equipment used throughout a luxury outdoor wear clothing company with stores in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. The company had several items of equipment which are identified as needing risk assessment as to whether it can be operated, adjusted and maintained safely, resulting in any deterioration detected be remedied before it can turn into in a health and safety risk.
Typically, Action Handling can safety inspect pallet trucks, stackers, scissor lift tables, lifting equipment, racking and shelving and access equipment including mobile safety steps and ladders so we were able to conduct all relevant pieces of equipment in one site visit.
As part of the inspections carried out for our clothing company, we conducted:
Basic racking inspections for storerooms
Ensuring that the shelving units were secure and compliant with safety regulations as this is crucial in preventing accidents or product damage.
Safety checks for hand pallet trucks
Regular safety inspection checks on pallet trucks help ensure that they are operating properly, reducing the risk of injuries and improving the efficiency of store operations.
Safety checks for ladders and kick stools
Verifying the safety of ladders and kick stools is essential in any retail environment to prevent slips and falls, ensuring that staff can safely access high stock areas.
Why these checks are so important
In any industrial/retail sector, safety checks are vital for several reasons:
- Employee safety. Protecting your workforce is paramount. Regular inspections help identify potential hazards and mitigate risks, fostering a safer working environment.
- Customer safety. A safe public/shopping environment not only enhances the customer experience but also protects the company from liability claims arising from accidents.
- Regulatory compliance. UK businesses must adhere to safety regulations to avoid penalties. Conducting regular safety checks ensures compliance with health and safety laws.
- Operational efficiency. Well maintained equipment and storage solutions lead to more efficient production operations, reducing downtime and maintaining better staff engagement.
- Reputation management. Good commitment to better safety signals to customers that the business values their wellbeing and that of its employees, which in turn boosts brand reputation.
Ensuring that these safety inspection checks are completed regularly can significantly contribute to the overall success and longevity of all company operations.
We are proud to support UK businesses in maintaining high safety standards!
