Some rooms or areas within an organisation often need ‘clean room’ shelving as a way of storing goods or materials. Indeed, certain industries often demand a greater degree of hygiene than other, more industrial type operations. The pharmaceutical and food processing industry are great examples of where hygiene and contamination are paramount to ensure safe production processes.

We were recently pleased to assist an existing client based in Essex who were expanding their laboratory testing facility. As a research centre working with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, they play a vital role in accelerating the discovery, development and manufacturing of new drugs and therapies. Due to an increase in demand for services, they required the swift supply of a specialist shelving system that would prove to be extremely hygienic, easy to keep clean and a proven type that would reduce contamination to a bare minimum. We were asked to consider their brief and to recommend a suitable solution. The client had already designated an area for this new facility.

The brief was clear, we needed to provide shelving suitable for a clinical environment, specifically for the storage of microfilter plates. Correct cleaning procedures have always been at the forefront of hygiene in business and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are a good source for what is required if in doubt.

There are notably several types of shelving available but after thorough discussions with the staff at the site, we confirmed measurements and specifications for the new area and proposed our chrome shelving system, just one type of our hygiene shelving choices available, the others being plastic and stainless-steel finishes. The solution included 12 bays, each measuring 1820 mm high, 915 mm wide and 460 mm deep, all fitted out with a variety of shelf levels.

The shelving system was ordered and delivered promptly within three days. This meant that the client could begin preparing their new lab testing area far quicker than was first envisaged and production was immediately moved forwards from the original timescales envisaged.

Our 55 years of experience and extensive knowledge, guided our client into choosing the best storage solution tailored to their specific needs and with a great cost solution!
