With bulk storage

Humans have been dealing in commerce for thousands of years, trading items large and small around the globe. As commercial enterprises grew, so did the need for mass storage as the number of items required for trade increased. The Greeks used giant storage jars called pithos, some of which were two meters tall with a weight of several tonnes, while the Romans used giant amphorae for bulk storage of food, wine and ceramics, some of which have been found in our own British Isles.

These days, bulk storage is no longer made from fired earthenware, nor is it decorated with intricate patterns (perhaps a bit of a shame). These days plastic and metal form the majority of bulk storage containers, with products ranging from simple plastic tubs and containers to specially constructed shelving units and walk-in steel storage spaces.

But the basic idea remains the same – the need to store large quantities of the same or similar items in such a way that they can be easily accessed for packing, usage and delivery. At Action Handling, we supply a large range of bulk storage products. Pick and pack shelving systems can be added to according to your requirements, while folding plastic containers can be easily stored when not in use. Our louvre bin systems come in a huge variety of sizes and configurations, all on pre-drilled panels for easy wall mounting. Plastic tubs, a mainstay of the materials handling industry, are available in a large range of sizes, shapes and colours, meaning you have no excuse not to get your items organised for ease of access. For even larger quantities, we supply several sizes of wooden pallet collars, as well as plastic box pallets and heavy duty folding plastic containers.

And of course, if you can’t find just what you’re looking for, speak to our bespoke steel construction department. It’s what a leading UK automotive manufacture did when they were experiencing supply issues due to increased demand. After assessing the company’s requirements, Action Handling were able to design, construct and supply a heavy duty component pallet tailored to the client’s exact needs. Once the new product was implemented, the client reported productivity increased tenfold, and we’re now in discussions to supply more units in the coming months.
