Manual materials handling carries a risk of strain and injury to employees, so is governed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations. These are designed to apply to a wide range of manual handling activities such as lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling or carrying, including the movement of loads up or down stairs, a common occurrence in many workplaces.

While many modern offices and workspaces have internal lifts available, most of us experience occasions where we need to move items up or down stairs. Whether it's only a few steps or several flights, using the correct equipment to move heavy loads is vital in preventing injury, strains and falls.

We always recommend consulting your own company safety regulations before undertaking any sort of manual materials handling. If you do have a regular requirement to move items up and down stairs, Action Handling supply a range of stairclimbing trucks all designed to make the job much easier, as well as reducing risk of employee injury. The step climbers can handle loads up to 250kg (though a lighter loading is recommended for safe passage on stairs) and come in a variety of sizes and configurations to suit different uses, many with folding footplates for ease of storage.

We also carry two electric powered stairclimbing trucks. The first features a lightweight aluminium frame for ease of handling and is extremely fast, able to move up to 48 stairs per minute. It also has an intelligent power pack to sense steps and stop automatically (in down mode), while the footplates, handles and accessories can be configured specifically to your requirements. The second model is more heavy-duty, incorporating a brake system and extendable handle for taller loads. Demonstrations and training are also available – ask us for more details.

And finally, if we don't have exactly what you're looking for, speak to our bespoke steel construction department. That's just what a global electronic and industrial component giant did when they needed a specific type of sack truck in order to improve efficiency. Unable to find what they wanted, they asked Action to assess their needs and design a product to suit. Once our working prototype had been approved, 42 units were manufactured and delivered within a two week period and are now in use on site.
