In order to cope with the September influx of new students, a leading Welsh university contacted us with a requirement of 37 shelving bays for their music centre.
With an exceptionally short turnaround time (10 working days), Action Handling were up against a tight schedule! Arriving on-site the next day, we were able to calculate the best possible layout to maximise storage capacity, as well as evaluating the items being stored on shelving to find the best solution.
Our site visit confirmed that standard shelving would not be suitable, due to certain characteristics on site such as pillars and an intricate sprinkler system that we needed to work around. The floor space allocated for the new storage area was measured out and discussions held on site with the project manager to establish exactly what the university required. A new floor plan was drawn up and the design layout and quotation were promptly submitted for approval so that manufacturing, delivery and installation of new shelving for the music centre could progress quickly.
To improve speed on-site it was agreed that Action Handling would assemble all shelving units prior to despatch and place four units on a pallet so that installation would be swift and pain-free, as well as not causing any possible knock-on delays to other workmen carrying out essential maintenance. Our design solution comprised steel shelving units measuring 1860mm high x 950mm wide x 350mm, complete with 8 equal compartments and a carrying capacity of 100Kg.
Did we meet the deadline? You bet we did! All units were designed, manufactured and supplied within the original required lead time, hitting the right note (sorry, couldn’t resist) with our client.
