Personal protective equipment (PPE) should always be at the forefront of your business activities. The amended PPE at work regulations came into force on the 6th April 2022. We are always looking at equipment that offers you the very best protection for your workers and better equipment makes them feel valued and minimises the risks of injury around the workplace. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) publish some great advice on how to control risks at work by using personal protective equipment.
The law places duty on employers to ensure that PPE is:
- Properly assessed before use to make sure it is fit for purpose.
- Maintained and stored properly.
- Provided with instructions on how to use it safely.
- Used correctly by workers.
If you provide your workers with any PPE, you must ensure that it complies with the legislation relevant to product supply. Businesses can easily access the information and guidance for product safety and the applicable standards on gov.uk.
Our updated PPE product section provides you with the latest quality personal protection products that you can purchase from stock, which will enable you to supply your employees the best equipment available on the market today.
Business owners must ensure that their workers are protected from health and safety risks. Those risks need to be assessed and the relevant PPE must be provided free of charge if the assessment shows this is needed.
Employers must do a risk assessment. PPE may then be needed once any of these risks are identified:
- Breathing in dust, mist, gas or fume.
- Falling materials hitting people.
- Flying particles or splashes of corrosive liquids getting into people’s eyes.
- Skin contact with corrosive materials.
- Excessive noise.
- Extremes of heat or cold.
To stay safe, operatives may have to wear PPE such as helmets, respiratory apparatus, gloves, eye and hearing protection, hi-vis clothing, safety footwear and harnesses.
